Does CageList Offer Insurance? Everything Hosts Should Know
Does CageList Offer Insurance? Everything Hosts Should Know
One of the most common questions we receive from prospective hosts is simple:
"Does CageList provide insurance?"
The short answer is:
No.
Today, CageList does not provide platform-backed insurance for hosts or guests.
We know that answer may surprise some people, especially because several well-known sharing marketplaces advertise various forms of protection.
Rather than hide behind confusing language or make promises that are difficult to understand, we'd rather be completely transparent about where we are today, why we've made that decision, and where we hope to go in the future.
Why We Don't Offer Insurance Today
Insurance sounds simple.
In reality, it isn't.
Providing insurance for a nationwide peer-to-peer marketplace is incredibly complicated.
It requires specialized underwriting, claims management, legal compliance across multiple states, partnerships with insurance carriers, and significant operational infrastructure.
Many of the largest marketplaces in the world spent years building these programs after reaching enormous scale.
As a young company, we believe our responsibility is to focus on what we can do exceptionally well today instead of promising protection we cannot fully stand behind.
That means we'd rather tell you the truth than market something that sounds reassuring but comes with pages of exclusions and limitations.
What CageList Does Offer
While we don't currently provide insurance, we do provide a growing set of tools designed to create a safer and more trustworthy marketplace.
These include:
- Verified user accounts
- Required guest waivers before booking
- Secure online payments
- Host-controlled availability
- Request-to-book and approval options
- Clearly defined house rules
- Private messaging between guests and hosts
- Transparent reviews and ratings
- Trust & Safety resources
- Customer support
Our goal is accountability.
Everyone knows who they're booking with.
Everyone understands the expectations before arriving.
That foundation creates a better experience for both hosts and guests.
What We Recommend for Hosts
Every property is different.
Every homeowner's insurance policy is different.
Every state has different laws.
Because of that, we encourage every host to review their existing insurance coverage with their insurance professional before hosting.
Questions worth asking include:
- Does my current homeowner's policy cover my batting cage?
- Are there exclusions related to athletic equipment?
- Would an umbrella liability policy make sense?
- Are there additional endorsements available?
- Should I consider a commercial policy if I host frequently?
We're not insurance professionals, so we don't provide insurance advice.
A licensed insurance agent who understands your property is the best resource.
How Other Marketplaces Handle Insurance
People often compare CageList to marketplaces like Airbnb or Turo.
Those companies offer various forms of host protection or insurance programs.
It's important to understand that these programs didn't exist from day one.
They evolved over many years as those companies grew, collected claims data, partnered with insurance carriers, and built sophisticated trust and safety organizations.
Even today, those programs have eligibility requirements, exclusions, deductibles, and detailed claim processes.
Insurance is rarely as simple as a headline or advertisement makes it seem.
Why Transparency Matters
It would be easy for us to use phrases like:
- "Host Protection"
- "You're Covered"
- "Peace of Mind"
Many companies do.
But those phrases often leave people wondering:
"What exactly is covered?"
"What isn't covered?"
"What happens if something actually goes wrong?"
Instead of relying on marketing language, we'd rather provide a clear answer.
If we don't provide insurance, we'll tell you.
If our approach changes in the future, we'll explain exactly what changed.
Our Long-Term Vision
Insurance is something we continue to explore.
As CageList grows, we'll have opportunities to work with insurance providers, better understand marketplace risks, and evaluate programs that truly benefit hosts.
If we ever introduce an insurance or protection program, it will need to meet a simple standard:
It must provide real value.
Not marketing value.
Real protection with clear terms that hosts can easily understand.
Until then, we believe honesty and transparency are the better policy.
Our Commitment to Safety
While insurance is one piece of the puzzle, it's not the only one.
We're committed to building the safest and most trusted marketplace for backyard batting cages through thoughtful product design, verified accounts, guest waivers, clear communication, secure payments, strong host controls, and continuous improvements to our Trust & Safety resources.
As our marketplace grows, those tools will continue to evolve alongside it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does CageList offer insurance?
No. CageList does not currently provide platform-backed insurance for hosts or guests.
Should I have insurance before hosting?
We recommend speaking with your insurance professional to understand your existing coverage and determine whether additional protection makes sense for your property and hosting activity.
Will CageList offer insurance in the future?
Possibly. We're actively evaluating long-term solutions, but we won't launch an insurance program until we're confident it provides meaningful value and can be administered responsibly.
Why doesn't CageList simply include insurance with every booking?
Insurance for peer-to-peer marketplaces is significantly more complex than many people realize. Rather than offer something incomplete or confusing, we've chosen to focus on transparency while continuing to evaluate future options.
Building Trust One Step at a Time
CageList was founded to make baseball more accessible.
Trust is a core part of that mission.
Sometimes the most trustworthy answer isn't the one people expect.
Today, that answer is simple:
CageList does not currently provide platform-backed insurance.
Instead, we're committed to being transparent about what we do offer, continually improving the marketplace, and building toward a future where every host and every guest can book with confidence.
We'll continue listening, learning, and investing in trust and safety as CageList grows—one backyard, one host, and one booking at a time.
