Nestled between Canyon High School and Sierra Vista sits a backyard batting cage in Santa Clarita, CA that comes with real pedigree, the home of The Spartan Cage, a private, shaded training spot run by a coach who offers hitting lessons and free swing analysis to players across the Santa Clarita Valley.

The cage

The cage runs 45 feet long, 16 feet wide, and a generous 18 feet tall, giving hitters plenty of vertical room to open up their swing. It comes stocked with a hitting tee, an L-screen, and baseballs, so you can walk in and start taking cuts; softball players are welcome too and are simply asked to bring their own balls. The shaded location keeps sessions comfortable even on warm afternoons. Cage rental starts at $30/hour, with on-site parking available for players and parents.

Who it's for

Beyond open cage time, this is a coaching-forward setup for players who want to actually get better, not just get loose. One-on-one lessons run $60 for a full hour with video analysis, mental approach, and cage work, or $30 for a focused 30-minute session covering tee work, soft toss, and live BP. There's also a free swing analysis with a video breakdown for players who want a read on their mechanics before committing to a lesson plan.

The host

Michael Alvarado describes the space as "'The Cage,' a state-of-the-art baseball facility," positioned in the heart of Santa Clarita where, as he tells it, travel baseball originated. He keeps baseballs and tees on hand for convenience and works directly with players on their development. Lesson spots are limited, so anyone interested in instruction is encouraged to reach out directly through CageList.

Good to know

The location is private and shaded, a comfortable, distraction-free setting for focused work. It's an outdoor cage, so plan sessions with the weather in mind. Parking is on site, house rules keep it simple with no hitting outside the cage and no glass, and the coaching add-ons make it easy to turn a straight rental into a full development session.
