In Montclair, a softball dad opened up his backyard batting cage in Montclair, CA, a turfed, thoughtfully equipped setup dialed in for quality swings, day or night.

The cage

This outdoor cage is 40 feet long, 12 feet wide, and 10 feet tall, fully turfed for clean, consistent footing. It comes with a hitting mat, a backstop, a protective screen, and a Mound Yeti softball pitching machine, plus a hitting tee, a separate net, and a pitching mat for players who want to work on their delivery. The host provides two full buckets of 11-inch Jugs sting-free machine balls, so you're never short on reps, and the cage is lit for nighttime use. A seating area and parking are on site. Sessions are $25/hour.

Who it's for

The softball machine, sting-free balls, and dedicated pitching mat make this an easy call for softball hitters and pitchers, whether you're solo or in a small family group of up to 5. Because the cage is fully turfed, plan on regular athletic or turf shoes, and count on that turf keeping footing steady through a long session.

The host

Jose sums himself up in just two words ("Softball dad") and the details back it up completely: sting-free balls to spare, a proper machine, a pitching mat, and a lit turf cage all point to a parent who set this up carefully for his own player, and now shares it so other families can benefit from the same thoughtful setup.

Good to know

It's a turfed, lit outdoor cage with seating and parking on site, ready for daytime or evening sessions. House rules keep it to individual and family sessions (no full team practices): turf-friendly shoes only (no cleats), no pets, seeds, or gum, and no smoking, alcohol, or glass.
