Charlie Seddio's four boys got plenty of use out of this full-size backyard batting cage in Holmes, NY, and now he's opened it up so other hitters can too.

The cage

Charlie's outdoor cage runs a full 70 feet long, 14 wide, and 12 tall, with a pitcher's mound and a Juggs two-wheel machine throwing yellow dimple balls. It comes with a Z-screen, an I-screen, and a Tanner Tee with net, plus lighting for evening sessions. It's set up to be equally good for hitting or throwing bullpens. Sessions are $40/hour with parking on-site, and the cage holds up to twelve guests, four included.

Who it's for

With a full-length 70-foot cage, a real machine, and a mound, this setup suits hitters and pitchers alike, solo work, a parent-and-player session, or a group getting extra reps and bullpen time in near Holmes, with room for up to twelve guests. The Juggs two-wheel machine gives you consistent, adjustable speeds to time up against, and the mix of a Z-screen, an I-screen, and a Tanner Tee means you can set up front toss, live-arm work, and tee reps in the same session.

The host

Charlie keeps it warm and to the point: "My 4 boys get plenty of use from this cage and now you can too." It's a family cage first (built and broken in by his own kids) and shared with the community rather than left to sit idle. There's something to that: a cage that has raised four ballplayers is a cage that has been used the right way, and now other families get the benefit of it.

Good to know

Lighting makes evening sessions easy, and parking is on-site. House rules: no pets, no glass, no alcohol, no loud music, no smoking. It's outdoor and uncovered, so plan around the weather. At a full 70 feet, it's long enough for genuine bullpen distances, and sessions run an accessible $40/hour.
