Most cages hand you a machine; this backyard batting cage in Hemet, CA hands you a live pitching arm and a coach who's spent his life around the game. The Hitting Lab is built to teach, not just to swing.
The cage
Mark's outdoor cage runs 35 feet long, 12 wide, and 10 tall, and it's stocked like a pro's setup: an MLB hitting mat, an MLB Tanner tee, an MLB L-screen, a ball cart, and hundreds of Rawlings baseballs. On-site amenities include a bathroom, parking, lighting, a sound system, and seating, and Gatorade and water are free during your session. Sessions run $30/hour, with room for infield work as well.
Who it's for
With space for up to eight guests and a live arm on hand, this cage suits hitters who want real, moving pitches and proper coaching on mechanics, as well as small groups rotating reps. Private hitting lessons are available for players who want to build mechanics and confidence rather than just take swings.
The host
Mark played baseball and football at Mater Dei High School in Orange County, starting at shortstop for three years. "I love teaching, that is where my passion lies," he says, and that's the point of The Hitting Lab, insider knowledge passed on, one session at a time. His sign-off says it all: "Work hard, have fun."
Good to know
Because the pitching is live, you get feedback in real time (mechanics, timing, approach) not just reps off a machine. Amenities are full-service with a bathroom, parking, lighting, a sound system, and seating on site, and free Gatorade and water during your session. House rules keep it clean and safe: no pets, no smoking, no glass, no alcohol.
