Host Spotlight: Wayne's Newly Built Turf Cage in Edgewater, MD

Down in Edgewater, Maryland, Wayne built a brand-new cage from the ground up — and it shows in the details.
The cage
Wayne's outdoor cage measures 55 feet long, 14 feet wide, and a tall 14 feet high, built around a level wooden platform with a turf batter's box so hitters get a clean, consistent footing. The BP thrower can stand at multiple spots down the lane, and at the rear there are two rubber mats for a level throwing surface. It's a newly built setup that's genuinely dialed in. Sessions run $50/hour, and for a few dollars more you can add a 5-gallon bucket of baseballs or grab a 32/29 wood bat if you left yours at home.
The host
Wayne says it best himself: "I am 41 years old and have 6 kids (all boys). All of them have played baseball." Two of his older boys play for Gilman and St. Mary's, he coaches at Rawlings Prospects where three of his younger kids play, and he trains hitters on his own. When the cage isn't in use by his own crew, he opens it up — "Please feel free to book the cage at any time," he says.
