Host Spotlight: Saskia's Driveway Softball Cage in San Leandro, CA

Saskia's cage in San Leandro started the way a lot of the best ones do — out of necessity. She needed a convenient way to get her swings in, so she built a driveway setup smart enough that other hitters wanted in too.
The cage
Saskia's outdoor cage is a 10x35 driveway setup, mostly turfed, with a clever movable 10x5 hitting mat she left unattached so it can be repositioned for different batters — a small detail that keeps hitters from catching the net on their backswing. There's also a 7x4 pitching net built in. The equipment leans softball: fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball pitching machines are available as an add-on, plus softballs, a batting tee, and a soft-toss station. There's plenty of street parking since it's a home cage, and at just $20/hour it's one of the most affordable ways to get real, repeatable reps in the East Bay.
The host
Saskia knows exactly why this works: "I've played softball for most of my life... Repetition is key — it's all about building muscle memory." These days she sticks to slow pitch, and she built the space so she — and now her neighbors — can get swings in without the hassle of heading to a field.
