Host Spotlight: Alex's Backyard Batting Cage in Tacoma, WA

When Alex describes his cage in Tacoma, Washington, one line stands out: his family loves the game but also "recognize there is a shortage of available batting cages in the area." So they did something about it — and North Tacoma hitters are better for it.
The cage
Alex's outdoor cage is brand new and runs a roomy 55 feet long, 14 feet wide, and 12 feet high. Your rental comes with all the hard balls you need, and he keeps soft tee balls and plenty of softballs on hand too — as he puts it, "plenty of softballs for the ladies." There's a 7-foot-wide L-screen to protect the pitcher, a hitting tee for tee work, and access to a portable pitching mound for baseball or a turf mat for softball. There's no pitching machine, so you'll want someone to throw — or you can add Alex's batting-practice pitching for a small fee. Seating and parking round it out. Sessions run $50/hour.
The host
Alex is a baseball guy through and through: "Our family is a group of diehard baseball fans," he says. He played 15 years through college, coaches his son's team, and offers optional one-on-one hitting and pitching lessons for players younger than high school age.
