Host Spotlight: Matthew's Indoor Training Cage in Temple Hills, MD

Just outside D.C. in Temple Hills, Maryland, Matthew runs Palm Up Palm Down — a genuine indoor training space that's a step up from your average backyard net.

The cage

This is a big, covered indoor setup: 166 feet long, 65 feet wide, and 18 feet tall, which is a lot of room to spread out for both individual work and full team development. It's stocked for baseball and softball alike — a baseball pitching machine plus fastpitch and slowpitch softball machines, an L-screen, a hitting tee, and both baseball and softball bullpen mounds, with enough space for infield work. On-site you've got a bathroom, parking, seating, and lighting. Sessions run $75/hour, and bat rentals are available if you need one.

The host

Matthew describes the mission at Palm Up Palm Down as "a welcoming and inclusive environment for people of all fitness levels" — a place to help athletes "achieve their fitness goals and improve their overall health and well-being," from individual development through athletic team work. Certified trainers build personalized programs, but you can just as easily book the space and get your own reps in.
