Host Spotlight: Josh's Heated Indoor Batting Cage in Hickman, NE

When a softball dad gets tired of driving an hour just to find no open cage, sometimes he builds his own — and Josh's indoor setup in Hickman is what happens when he does it right.
The cage
Josh's cage is a full indoor training facility. It runs 52 feet long, 14 feet wide, and 15 feet tall, heated and air conditioned so you can hit year-round no matter the Nebraska weather. There's a full dugout for a team and an observation deck for coaches and parents, all fully netted and commercially turfed. The centerpiece is a professional Iron Mike pitching machine loaded with 400 balls, and it handles both baseball and softball — fast-pitch and slow-pitch machines, a softball bullpen mound, and room for infield work. On-site training aids include a rope bat, ZV tee, insider bat, swing rail, pocket radar, swing-speed radar, heavy bats, tees, an L-screen, and a rebounder. There's a bathroom, a kitchenette, a Bluetooth radio with a sub to pump up the music, and water and Gatorade on site. All of it for $15/hour.
The host
Josh puts it plainly: "Just a softball dad that was tired of driving an hour to use a facility just to find no room. So I built our own! Softball is life for my daughter and she works year round." He's listing the cage so others can get their work in without going broke — "ball is expensive enough."
