How to get a look in Vienna

No one can guarantee you a spot, and be wary of anyone selling one. This is the order that gets a reply most often: honest level, clean paperwork, one short note to the right desk.

Pick the rung you really fit

Match your last full season to a rung above. One rung up is a stretch; two is a long shot. Early on, aim at clubs and open tryouts, not the top flight.

Check you are allowed to sign

Your passport decides this before your swing does. Read the imports line on each card, then ask Vienna Metrostars about visas and work permits. We do not hold visa rules, and where a rule is not sourced the card says "Ask the league".

Build a one-page pack

A 60 to 90 second highlight clip, a stat sheet with level and dates, position, bats and throws, height and weight, passport countries and the weeks you are free. Send links, not attachments.

Write to the right desk

Start with Vienna Metrostars. Five lines, one ask: what is the process for overseas players in Vienna? A starter email is below.

Time it to the season

Season dates are not in our data for every league here. Ask when rosters are set, and write before that.

Hello,

I am a [position] (bats [L/R], throws [L/R], [height]) who last played [team, level, year]. I hold a [passport country] passport and would like to be considered for the coming season in Vienna.

Could you tell me whether you take overseas players, what the eligibility rules are for my passport, and who handles tryouts or signings?
